Daniel Spain | Everyday Mates

When Daniel Spain left the Australian Army, the real battle was just beginning.

After serving his country, Daniel was discharged due to a mental health condition and suddenly found himself navigating civilian life without the structure, purpose, and camaraderie that the military once provided.

Like many veterans, Daniel faced a wall of roadblocks when he tried to find support and in the midst of the struggle, he found a lifeline in his wife Jess along with joining the Vietnam Vets group.

This wasn’t only about shared experience. It was about being seen, heard, and supported without judgement. Daniel found community again. And that connection became the foundation for healing.

His story is raw and honest—a reminder that even the strongest among us can find themselves lost. And that’s why mateship matters more than ever.

This ANZAC Day (and everyday) we encourage you to take a moment to pay your respects to those mates who have served our country courageously and often deal with mental wounds for many years to follow.
