Everyone goes through stages of their life where external factors can have a large impact on the health of their minds. When you are feeling down, stressed or anxious and don’t know where to turn, the best place to start is with a conversation with your local general practitioner (GP).

Fraser Coast Mates encourages everyone to get a check-up once a year because talking to your doctor about how you are feeling and any changes in mood can often be a good place to start for most mental health conditions.

Doctors can provide you with the tools you need, possible treatment options or refer you to other services for mental health. 

Tip: Don’t forget to ask for a double length appointment to give you plenty of time to have an in-depth conversation about your health.

Opening up and starting a conversation about your mental wellness:

You can talk to your doctor about any of the following points to start an open and honest chat;

  • Tell them what symptoms you have been noticing and how you feel
  • Tell them your concerns
  • Tell them what you feel has affected or continues to affect your life
