$15m commitment for small business mental health support

Mental Health Awareness, Fraser Coast, Small Business Owner

If there’s one thing we love, it’s seeing high level support for the mental health of mates in need across Australia. In positive news, the Albanese government has announced additional funding to the value of 15 million dollars to help Australia’s 2.5 million small businesses. This funding will go directly to allowing small business owners access to mental health and financial counselling support.

After a number of extremely difficult years in business, the support is very welcomed by the business community which continues to feel the effects of changes in the economic climate.

The programs backed by the federal government will be free of charge and include the following:

  • NewAccess for Small Business Owners program – delivered via our mates at Beyond Blue
  • Access to a Small Business Debt Hotline – delivered by Financial Counselling Australia

According to a recent report by the Australian Government on Small Business and Mental Health – 1 in 5 business owners were diagnosed with a mental health condition. It was also shown that 54% of those listed cost as a barrier to seeking help. It is hoped that this funding gives an opportunity for small businesses to seek support and thrive.
